Construction Update

BUILDING ADDITION TO THE IKCE OYATE CHISTIAN CENTER (IOCC)

In 2004 construction on Diamond Willow Ministries' ministry headquarters, the Ikce Oyate Christian Center was begun and continued over the next four years.  The ministry committed, and remains so to this day, to never taking on any debt. So, construction moved forward as God provided through the generosity of many people, and the hard work of local Native American individuals working alongside workgroups. This building, the Ikce Oyate Christian Center, located at the heart of the reservation, was a tremendous answer to prayer, and has resulted in a great influx of people coming to the ministry.  However, now that the ministry has grown, we have run out of space!

An addition to the Ikce Oyate Christian Center will allow the ministry to meet the many physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the impoverished reservation communities well into the future.   The estimated cost to complete this addition is $205,000.  Already we have commitments for volunteer labor from local Native Americans, Churches and Christian organizations.  The need now is for funds to complete the project.  This is where YOU come in!

(Thermometer total as of June 30, 2010)

The approximately 50' x 60' addition will have two levels which will connect onto the existing Ikce Oyate Christian Center structure.  The main level will consist of an overflow area which will enlarge the holding capacity of the current sanctuary area.  Also included on the main level will be a reception area, office spaces and meeting room/common area.  The basement level will include classrooms, a craft room (for production of cultural items such as star quilts, beadwork and quillwork to support economic development), storage areas, and an overflow area which will enlarge and connect to the existing basement eating area.

Currently classes for children 6 and under are held in the large common area of the basement; classes for children 7-10 are held in the garage on one side of the duplex; adult classes are held in the sanctuary; and an office is currently set up in the garage of the second duplex unit.

Planning Phases I, II, & III

Phase I consists of preparing the site, pouring concrete basement walls and floor; getting everything ready for the "wood" construction to begin. COMPLETED!

Phase II begins with the placement of the interior walls in the basement, placement of the floor joists, building of the main level exterior walls and roof.  This phase is completed when the building is enclosed and "in the dry".  COMPLETED!

Phase III primarily involves the interior building work including the electrical, drywalling, tiling, carpeting, etc.  The building addition will be complete when Phase III is done.  $52,037 Remaining Need.

Labor will be volunteer and hired as appropriate.  The bulk of the labor will be volunteer, provided by various groups and individuals from the surrounding community as well as visiting work groups and individuals.  However several jobs lend only to professionally skilled individuals due to the level of expertise needed and for safety.
